John Virgil Hawk ( Missoula 1951 )

John, 86, died January 21, 2017, in Santa Rosa, California. Born in Ponca City, OK, on September 13,1930, John earned a Forestry degree at Oklahoma A&M, jumped at Missoula in 1951 and served in the U.S. Navy 1953-1956

John received Dr. of Ministry and Master of Theology degrees at Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary and was ordained in the Baptist Church. He served as a chaplain at San Quentin, pastor of West Berkeley Mission and counselor at Lytton Springs Men's Social Service Center. In 1965 John and his wife, Roma, were appointed by the Baptist Home Mission Board as directors of the Oklahoma City Mission Center, then to Atlanta to the Center there.

In 1971 they returned to California and John earned a degree in Drug and Alcohol Studies at Pacific School of Religion. In 1979 they moved to Fairbanks, Alaska, and he served as Diagnostician for Presbyterian Hospitality House. He began counseling for the Army there in 1986. In 1989 they transferred to Germany and in 1991 to Navy Postgraduate School, Monterey, CA. He retired in 1995.
