Art died July 12, 1999, while on a NSA Trail Crew Project in the Bob Marshall Wilderness. He graduated from the University of Montana in 1957 and later received his Masters in fire science in 1966. Art worked most of his 32 years of federal service with the Technology and Development Center in Missoula. He was the founder of the NSA's Trail Maintenance Program.
