Mick Burke, 73, died Nov. 26, 2000, at the Mercy Medical Center in Redding, California. Born in Oregon City, Oregon, September 18, 1927, he was a Forest Service smokejumper out of Missoula from 1949 through 1954. Mick moved to Shasta County, California, in 1955 from Kalispell, Montana. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and worked as a surveyor for the California Department of Transportation.
