Dick, 73, died March 24, 2006, at Mercy Medical Center in Redding. He was born April 7, 1932, in Pollock, S.D., and moved to Shasta County (CA) in 1968 from Silver City, N.M.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a unit supervisor for the Redding Smokejumper Unit.

Dick jumped at Missoula 1953-64 and came to Redding in 1968 to take charge of the California Smokejumpers. He was Base Manager there 1968-81.
