Leonard, 23, died August 5, 1949, along with 11 other Missoula smokejumpers in the Mann Gulch Fire. He was born July 5, 1926, in Blairsville, Pennsylvania. Leonard was a Machinist Mate 3rd Class U.S. Navy during WWII. He is pictured in the 1948 yearbook of Montana State University (Missoula).
